As a family mediator in Zaandam, I guide you and your (ex-)partner through this challenging period so that you can come to sustainable agreements together. What does a family mediator do?

A family mediator assists couples going through separation by helping them make agreements about matters such as division of assets, alimony, and child care. A mediator in Zaandam ensures that both parties are heard and creates a constructive atmosphere for resolving conflicts. Unlike a court battle, which can be time-consuming and costly, mediation offers a quicker and more cost-effective way to separate.

Allow me to introduce myself:

Mark de Krosse is the name… nice to meet you! In 2019, I decided to undertake formal training as a mediator so that I could work as a registered mediator with the MfN. The training, combined with over 25 years of experience as a mediator and entrepreneur/CEO in a larger family business, provided me with the foundation to move forward as a mediator.

In addition to the general mediation training, I have also completed specialized courses in divorce mediation, family mediation, and labor mediation. This combination of experience and education enables me to tackle various and complex mediations.

Throughout my career, I have dealt with a range of small and very large conflicts. Most conflicts were within the business family context. Sometimes I was a party to the conflict, but most of the time, I was “called to the table” to help find a solution. It always feels great when that works out, and it sparked my interest to do more. Ultimately, the step to work as a registered mediator with the MfN was not a big one.

How does it work?

Steps in the mediation process

When you choose a mediator in Zaandam, you go through a structured process to create agreements and finalize the divorce. This process follows several steps, so both parties always know what to expect. The main steps are:

  • Introductory meeting: In the first meeting, we discuss your situation and wishes. This meeting is non-binding and provides an opportunity to ask questions about the mediation process.
  • Inventory: We assess your current situation, including income, assets, debts, and housing needs.
  • Discussions: Both parties are encouraged to talk about their wishes and expectations. As a mediator in Zaandam, I ensure conversations are constructive and respectful.
  • Agreements and documents: Once an agreement is reached, I document the arrangements in legal documents, such as a divorce agreement or parenting plan.
  • Completion: After completing mediation, the documents can be submitted to court to finalize the divorce.

How can a mediator ease the divorce process?

Many people experience divorce as one of the most stressful events in their lives. It’s understandable that you would want support from someone neutral and professional during this time.

As a mediator in Zaandam, I provide guidance with all emotional and legal aspects of the divorce. This allows you to focus on building your future while I handle the practical side of the separation.

The parenting plan

When children are involved in the divorce, mediation also plays an essential role in creating a parenting plan. A mediator in Zaandam helps parents make agreements about the care and upbringing of their children. Topics include:

  • Care arrangements: Establishing a care schedule that works for both parents and the child.
  • Financial contributions: Agreeing on child support and who covers specific costs.
  • Communication and cooperation: Parents are encouraged to make agreements on their communication and joint decision-making regarding the child.

As a mediator, I provide a neutral environment where you can discuss your child’s welfare together. Good cooperation contributes to a stable future for your child.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a mediation process usually take?
Mediation typically varies but usually takes a few weeks to a few months, depending on the complexity of issues and the willingness of both parties to cooperate.

What are the costs of mediation?
Mediation costs vary per mediator, but it is generally less expensive than a lawsuit. In addition, costs are often shared between both parties.

Yes, the agreements are recorded in a divorce agreement and, if needed, a parenting plan. These documents are then submitted to court to make the divorce official.

Advantages of mediation

A mediator always works neutrally, ensuring both parties are satisfied with the outcome. This is crucial in divorce, as there is much more at stake than just material matters. Unlike a legal battle, which often has a winner and a loser, mediation creates a fair and collaborative solution.

  • Cooperation: Mediation encourages both parties to work together, while a legal process often puts them at odds.
  • Neutral support: A mediator represents neither party, keeping the process fair and impartial.
  • Emotional calm: Mediation builds less pressure and tension, which is important in emotionally challenging times.
